Pep confirms Kyle Walker has requested a transfer

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that right-back and captain Kyle Walker has requested a transfer request to leave the club during the January transfer window.

The 34-year-old England international, who has 18 months remaining on his current deal. Was not named in City’s squad for Saturday’s 8-0 FA Cup third-round rout of Salford. With Pep Guardiola confirming Walker has contacted the club’s director of football Txiki Begiristain over a move abroad. 

Guardiola said: “Two days ago Kyle asked to consider his options to play abroad.”

Guardiola also said Walker initially asked to leave City after their historic treble in 2023, with German giants Bayern Munich telling the player they wanted to sign him but could not pay the fee City were demanding.

AC Milan have emerged as favourites to sign Walker, according to The Telegraph, with the club confident of reaching an agreement to bring the experienced defender to San Siro. Although City have yet to receive a formal offer, Milan’s desire to sign the player is in line with their desire to strengthen their defence in the January transfer window.
