Fernando Hidalgo, the agent of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, has revealed that Liverpool were interest in signing him when he left Manchester City last summer.

    The Argentine international joined Los Rojiblancos in the summer for a fee believed to be in the region of €95 million and has impressed this season, scoring 22 goals and providing five assists in 43 appearances so far.

    “I can confirm that Liverpool were interest in Julian Alvarez last season,” Hidalgois said. “As for the future, this is not the right time to talk about it because Julian is fighting in an important competition and is fully committ to the competition.”

This comes after Anfield Watch‘s Sam McGuire also reported Liverpool’s interest in the former Man City attacker.

He states that Alexis Mac Allister “played his part in the charm offensive” to bring his World Cup-winning Argentina teammate to Anfield.

Whether Liverpool return for Alvarez remains to be seen. But he could be a superb alternative to Isak, who could cost as much as £150 million.
